There are days where I am feeling playful in the world of internet dating and there are days where I am just not having it. As I re-read this text exchange, I believe this was a day where I was just not having it.

I will say though, it can be tough to judge someone's sense of humor when you first meet. So, this banter can typically go either way. This delightful exchange was from May, 2014.

Internet Date: Hi there! We match!! :-)

Me: Yup

Internet Date: How are you doing tonight? You have a great smile. :-)

Me: Thank you. I am good. How are you?

Internet Date: I'm chilling after a busy weekend. Where do you live? I am in Hobart, IN.

Me: Where is that? I am in downtown Chicago.

Internet Date: Hobart is about 35 to 40 minutes Southeast of Chicago.

(Sue here, I know this was strike one in my mind, geographically undesirable)

Internet Date: I've always wanted to live downtown but the commute is not desirable. What do you do for a living? I'm a facility manager at a steel center.

Me: I am in hotel sales.

Internet Date: Do you have children? I have two girls and one boy. They are all grown up.

Me: No, never been married.

Internet Date: What do you want to do with your life?

Me: Too much for text.

(Sue here, I know this was strike two, how could you answer this type of question in a couple of sentences?)

Internet Date: Guess you will have to tell me in person.

Sue: Sounds good.

Internet Date: I think you are pretty. Are you a natural blonde?

Sue: What kind of question is that?

Internet Date: Don't worry, I will find out anyway. I think you already answered it though. I am a natural blonde though it isn't as light anymore.

(Sue here, strike 3)

Sue: I don't think you will find out.

Internet Date: Well, either way, you have nice hair. Do you like sports?

Internet Date: I am sorry if I offended you with the hair question. I was totally being playful but apparently it did not come off that way. Hope you will forgive me.

Sue: When you don't know someone, there is a fine line between playful and creepy. Just my opinion.

Internet Date: You are right! Point taken and applied. I guess I saw your smile and just wanted to be silly and playful because you look like a happy person.

Internet Date: Hi. How are you doing?

Internet Date (1 month later): Hi.

Internet Date (2 months later): Hi.

Internet Date (3 months later): What a beautiful fall weekend we had. How was yours? I went up to Michigan with friends to a pumpkin patch then a farmer's market and finished it off with wine tasting.

Lesson learned? A small infraction can be enough to move on when you are online dating. There are so many other people to chat with, it is easier to cut your losses if something rubs you the wrong way. And, to answer the question, I do help Mother Nature along with my hair color. LOL!
