So, one day I am sitting at my desk and my phone rings. Here is how the conversation went:
Sue: Hello?
Producer: Hi, this is Melanie from the Steve Harvey Show here in Chicago. I am a show producer.
Sue: Oh, hello Melanie. How can I help you? (Work phone, thought it might be work related).
Producer: We received a very long email about you and was hoping we could talk to you about being on the Steve Harvey Show.
Sue: You did? From who?
Producer: We received it from your friend Deborah. She said you are single with hilarious stories and thought you would be good for the show.
Sue: Really – do you want a fun fact about Deborah? She is single too!
Producer: Well, we would love to discuss this further about having you on the show. Perhaps we could have a group of girls and have it be like a dating show with a guy?
Me: Oh, heck no. First, I don’t share. Second, I am not going to compete for a guy. Not my style.
Producer: Well, we could do it one on one then. We can do it the way you want.
Me: Well, that is something that would be better but I will have to think about it.
Producer: Please take down my number so you can call me if you have any interest. We will do it so you are entirely comfortable.
Producer: We just need a “character” on the show and I know I am talking to one.
Me: You got that right.
Producer: We hope to hear from you!
Lesson learned? The show moved to LA and was cancelled. Don’t let opportunities pass you by! I should have jumped at the chance.
