I had a guy reach out to me recently on Facebook dating. He sent me some questionable messages, borderline insulting. Normally I would just move on but during a pandemic, I had some time to burn. So, I decided to banter a bit, just for fun. Here is our exchange!

FB Dating Guy: Fake

FB Dating Guy: U Fake? (like I would say if I was, ridiculous question)

Sue: No, you?

FB Dating Guy: lol

FB Dating Guy: Do you know where rb is?

Sue: Riverside-Brookfield?

FB Dating Guy: lol ok now i know you not a person over seas lol

Sue: Calling someone fake is not a great start.

FB Dating Guy: Its a weird profile lol, well a weird picture on LaSalle, and, it's hard to get to the city anyway.

Sue: Why is it a weird picture on LaSalle? We were in the middle of a lockdown. You should try and have some fun.

FB Dating Guy: Cool, ur lucky u didn't get covid (yet another weird thing to say, I am sure he was attempting to mock a bit)

FB Dating Guy: u can come visit me? u can work from home at my place?

Sue: DeKalb?

FB Dating Guy: what's ur number? I will text you

Sue: No thank you.

And scene.....

This whole exchange reminds me of one of my former neighbors. He was single and he would approach girls at a bar and say something that was a little bit off, just so he would get their attention.

I used to witness this quite a bit and one instance sticks out to me. He went up to one of my friends (who he didn't know) and asked her why her head was so small. She said, my head isn't small. He said, really? Seems like it is to me. You haven't heard this before? She was like no, I haven't. (BTW, her head wasn't small)

He would then walk away leaving my friend to say, what is with that guy? I said, don't mind him, it is his schtick.

He then comes back a couple of minutes later and says to her, I mean, how do you find hats? It must be hard, no? She was like, what are you talking about?

He would do this all the time to meet girls. He would say something somewhat innocuous, yet enough to get their attention. They would then keep coming back to him to argue their point. It was really crazy! I know it worked for him because it was a regular occurance.

Seems like this FB Dating Guy was taking a page out of my neighbor's book by telling me my profile was weird, exccept, I didn't take it any further.

Lesson learned? This FB Dating Guy has proven to me that I need to get on a dating website where people pay. These free sites are for the birds. Way too many weirdos!
