I continue to get people who want to set me up. I am ALWAYS open to it. Historically, there are many great couples who have met through friends, so this is intriguing to me.

About a year ago, a friend’s husband said he wanted to set me up with someone in his golf league. I immediately said yes.

However, my friend said, hold up. I want to meet him first. I need to do some pre-qualifying as I am not so sure he will be a good fit.

But I was fine with no pre-qualifying. I don’t need someone to give me a stamp of approval. One date is never that big of a commitment, but I said, whatever works best. So, we held off.

About 3 months ago, my friend did meet this guy and she said WOW, this could be the guy for you. He is super nice, handsome, very successful and a bit reserved. She said you will have to come out and we can meet him at the Clubhouse after golf. I said, great.

Well, my friend and I have crazy schedules and it is the summer, so we weren’t able to get together for a couple of months. We did land on a date though.

A couple of days before I was going to see her, she told me she had an update on the guy she wanted to set me up with. She said, unfortunately, I have two single friends and he met my other single friend recently and they are going to go out.

So, you won’t be meeting him as she got first dibs. For the record, she met him the week before me. One week!

I said, I didn’t know this was a competition. I didn’t realize there was a clock ticking and a gaggle of girls. It is like my friend is running her very own little Bachelor show. Someone else got the rose. And, I have to get in the limo to go home. LOL!

You win some, you lose some.

Well, as life would have it, my phone rings a couple of days later. It is from a different friend’s husband who says, I’ve got a guy.

I said, I am listening. He said he is a super fun guy who lives in Chicago and is a Bears fan. He said, I could see you two hitting it off. Now, my friends live on the East Coast and I say, how did you meet him? He said he and his buddy were sitting at a table next to them at a Yacht Club.

He said, can I give him your number? I said, of course. I said, put your wife on. She gets on and I say, so give me the 411. She said, he is nice and you should meet him. I say, what does he do for a living? She said, oh, that is funny. He drives cars across the country for people. Sometimes with pets, sometimes without.

I said, is that a hobby? Or his job? She said, no he loves to drive, it is his job. He used to be a truck driver.

Well, the suits aren’t working out for me, why not a truck driver? To be continued…..

Lesson learned? Timing is everything. I am next in line if the first couple doesn’t work out. However, rumor has it he has already given her an invite to the fantasy suite.
